An International Conference and Exhibition on Health Technology for Development (14-16 November 2013, Bangkok, Thailand 2013) The global biomedical industry continues to grow at impressive rates. The growth is non homogenous. Asia for example has experienced a growth rate of over 10% per year over the last decade. While powerhouse countries like China, Korea and Japan have accounted for the majority of the Asian market, domestic growth in South East Asia (ASEAN) countries are fast expanding, and should not be overlooked. In 2015, ten countries in the region will join and become a single market and population, known as the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). This geographical expansion and the new emerging market with an estimated population over 600 million will present great opportunities for all stakeholders in the healthcare and biomedical industry. In terms of technology development, finding sustainable competitive advantage through innovation is definitely a new challenge in the AEC market. To promote and support the implementation of new health technologies in the AEC market, the National Innovation Agency [NIA] and the French National Alliance for Life Sciences and Health of France [Aviesan] both believe in the concept of sustainable development through an effective integration and management of research, development and innovation process between the academic institutions and the entrepreneurial world in the biomedical field. Upon our first attempt to achieve this goal, NIA and Aviesan are organizing an International Conference and Exhibition on the biomedical industry by the name of “AEC Biomedical Innovation Forum 2013” which will provide an international platform to exchange knowledge and networking in the biomedical industry in ASEAN. Hopefully, this forum will lead to (a) successful(ly) technology transfer and the implementation of new health technologies and investment in the region, especially in the emerging markets of AEC. The AEC Biomedical Innovation Forum 2013 will address the critical issues to successfully facilitate the transfer and implementation of innovative health technologies in this region. This conference will provide you with a comprehensive overview of the biomedical industry in the AEC market, with the main focus on challenges and opportunities in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and the Philippines. Local and international companies will present the latest innovation and technologies that could solve healthcare problems. Finally, funding bodies will discuss funding schemes that would result in the highest benefit for all stakeholders. The event will be co-organized by the leading agencies of different countries, including NIA from Thailand, Aviesan and OSEO of France as well as the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with support from many private companies and organization such as Cohred and Sanofi (tbc). 2.
